Promoting Safer Roads through Community Awareness

Our Mission

The Office of Traffic Safety.Org is an independent, non-profit, educational journalistic organization dedicated to preventing road traffic collisions and reducing the casualty toll on our roads. We work together with key agencies who share the responsibility for safety on our roads. By taking a multi-agency strategic approach to casualty reduction, we are able to use the wide range of expertise, skill and knowledge of each partner agency to address local problems in a coordinated manner. We support our mission through studies of data of human and economic loss resulting from excessive speeding and driving under the influence.

We encourage the adoption of federal and state laws, policies and programs that reduce injuries and save lives. Through our research and community awareness program, we hope to increase participation in a wide array of groups in public policy initiatives which advance highway and auto safety.

Tackling speeding is a priority area because speed is one of the key factors that determines whether people are able to observe and respond to hazards and also determines the severity of injuries sustained in the event of a collision. Speeding not only presents a road safety hazard but also affects people's quality of life. We aim to change drivers attitudes towards speed and modify driver's behavior through education, publicity and enforcement. Engineering measures to help keep traffic at safe speeds include review of speed limits, speed limit signs, and the use of photo radar to name just a few.

Ultimately, all drivers are responsible for the safety of our roads. Education and awareness are vital to ensure reduction of roadway casualties.

Tackling speeding is a priority area because speed is one of the key factors that determines whether
4 out of 10 people killed in road collisions between 2007 and 2009 were not wearing seat belts. Use of hand held mobile devices and other distractions were also a source of casualties. We are raising the awareness of the issues and hazards through a program of education.

Our collective aim is to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured in road traffic collisions, in line with the highway administrations reduction targets.
